Vegetable-Tanned Leather
Consortium
The Genuine Italian
The Consortium for Italian Vegetable-Tanned Genuine Leather regulates, protects, and guarantees the production of Tuscan vegetable-tanned leather through the product trademark “Vegetable-Tanned Leather in Tuscany”. The trademark is registered in Italy and abroad and is the exclusive property of the Consortium, which grants its use solely to its affiliated tanneries.
The “Vegetable-Tanned Leather in Tuscany” guarantee label serves as a certificate of authenticity for the leather, confirming its quality, Tuscan origin, and the traditional craftsmanship involved in the vegetable-tanning process by the consortium-affiliated tanneries. The label features a traceability system enabling the consortium to identify both the supplying tannery and the distributing company. It is available in various bilingual versions.
A progressive serial number composed of a unique alphanumeric code (authenticity verification is possible by contacting the consortium).
An anti-counterfeiting hologram of the trademark on the label’s inner part.
A QR code printed on the label’s outer part, enabling purchasing customers to access multimedia content for further information on vegetable-tanned leather.
As part of the guarantee kit, the Consortium offers an authenticity seal made of natural cotton cord with an irreversible closure bearing the consortium logo. The combined use of these two tools enhances security and distinguishes genuine products from counterfeit attempts, while also providing an aesthetic advantage in terms of product presentation elegance.
The use of the quality trademark is bound by compliance with the Production Technical Regulations issued by the Consortium, which all associated tanneries are obliged to adhere to.
The Regulations contain a precise definition of “vegetable-tanned leather,” stipulate that the production process in its qualifying phases must be entirely carried out within the Tuscan territory, and require that the hides produced under the trademark “Vegetable-Tanned Leather in Tuscany” comply with a production technical sheet containing specific physical and chemical reference parameters. To identify and guarantee the leather that complies with the Production Regulations, the Consortium has created a guarantee tag equipped with a traceability system for the supply chain.
